A Proud History of Caring
Founded in 1969
Good OL' Boys Charities has been active in the Atlanta area for over forty years. In 1969 a small group of young Atlanta businessmen, who were single at the time, realized they had no one special to share the joys of Christmas with. So they sought out local families with small children who were less fortunate than themselves. They found out what the kids really wished for...went shopping....then visited their homes on Christmas day bearing neatly wrapped gifts. The experience was so emotionally and personally rewarding, they began to tell their friends. By the next holiday season they had created an informally organized group of dedicated and caring individuals who call themselves simply, The "Good OL' Boys Charities."
The Good OL' Boys Charities Benefit Christmas Party has become a cherished Atlanta tradition. Each year guests bring hundreds of brightly wrapped toys, clothing and other essentials for those in the Atlanta area who have little else to look forward to during the holiday season. Groups of volunteers then deliver the gifts directly to a carefully researched list of recipients.
Mission Statement
The Good OL' Boys Charities is a non-profit corporation
dedicated to spreading the warm spirit of giving throughout the year and
especially during the holiday season. As a charitable organization we
believe in the power of direct personal involvement. It is the primary
means by which we seek to help others in our community overcome the
tragic consequences of sickness, poverty and physical abuse.
We know our charitable deeds really do make a difference,
because we make it a point to understand the specific needs of those we
help. We constantly seek out deserving individuals, families and
institutions - especially those too often overlooked by government,
social services and other charitable agencies. Then we find innovative
ways to get involved. Sometimes it's providing badly needed items like a
winter coat for an unemployed father who has to go out and find work to
support his family. Sometimes it's helping a single mother in a shelter
for battered women pay for a critical operation for her child. Or, it
can simply be playing Santa to underprivileged kids at Christmas. But
always it's finding a way to make it a meaningful difference in peoples'
lives.
"Through your generous support we can accomplish our ambitious objectives."
